Botswana's online music publisher, Itumeleng Garebatshabe, popularly known as Intellect, has been shortlisted to recieve an award for his anti-piracy application designed to hinder music piracy, especially through file sharing.

The Mobile Entertainment Africa Award ceremony is set for Cape Town, South Africa at the end of next month. Before attending the awards ceremony, Garebatshabe, founder of Intellegere Holdings, will join severalBlackBerry Application Developers at the Blackberry 10 Jam World Tour on July 31 at the West in Cape Town Hotel. The Gaborone-based mobile developer launched his anti-piracy application two months ago and used Karabo 'Bally' Leburu's hip hop gospel album, Hype On Grace, as a trial.

The initiative, he said, was driven by the fact that musicians the world over lose millions of currency a year to piracy and copyright-related issues.A report in Kenya claims out of 10 songs played, nine are pirated. Locally, pirates earn millions of Pulas a year.Intellect said he is not so intent on winning the award, but is certainly inspired by being nominated: "The fact that the App has been nominated and that I am a pioneer already means I am a winner.  So, whether I win the award or not is not really an issue for me, my small contribution to the fight against music piracy is what matters.
