Chuma receives African Artist Award

Belgium-based Botswana poet Andreattah Chuma last Saturday received an Africa Artist Award in Brussels as part of the Afrika Film Festival.

The Afrika Film Festival aims to showcase films of African origins as well as acknowledge artists and creatives from the continent who are based in the European Union (EU) country.

In a telephonic interview with Showbiz, Chuma could not hide her excitement .The elated young woman said that the award came as a pleasant surprise because she did not submit an entry but was nominated. She said that she got to know about the nomination through a friend Tunde who called to inform her about it. She pointed out that Tunde works at Woodern Urban, which deals with promoting poetry.  "Tunde is the one who spread word about my work after seeing me at the Sema talk show launch. The Sema talk show people saw me do a performance at the Botswana Embassy Independence dinner two months before and lucky enough The Afrika Film Festival people were also present at this launch," she added.
