Botswana Craft to host Bommampodi

Traditional dance enthusiasts will be in for a treat when Botswana Craft Marketing hosts the Bommampodi ba mmino wa setso dance competition next month.

Groups have been invited to submit their profiles for short listing.Once the groups have forwarded their profiles, they will be screened so that the best 15 selected will proceed to the auditions stage. Auditions will be held at Botswana Craft on August 18 from 10am to 4pm where the best five groups will be selected for the finale on September 8.  Botswana Craft general manager Nicola Hart told Showbiz that the idea behind the event is to promote culture and excellence in traditional dance. "Initially this formed part of our annual Letlhafula event but we decided to separate the two because we wanted Letlhafula to be more about traditional food while with this one, the focus is on traditional dance and performance," Hart said.

"Traditional dance has been there since time immemorial but it was only in recent years that it started to get the attention it so deserves. "The President's competitions are one of those initiatives aimed at promoting it and as Botswana Craft we are only doing our part," she said.
