Are local visual artists overpricing their works?

The Coordinator of Thapong Visual Arts Centre Reginald Bakwena echoed these sentiments during a members' exhibition on Tuesday.Bakwena expressed concern that the overpricing of artworks would drive away potential customers and deny arts the much-need exposure."Check your prices and see if they really match the standard of work you produced.  At times you find an artist selling a piece at a very high price when even the technique is poorly applied," Bakwena said.

He said while he appreciates that producing artworks is an expensive and time-consuming venture artists need to set realistic targets. He also reminded artists to ensure that their works are packaged in a presentable way to make them more attractive to the buyer."We need to attract both customers and the private sectors to this centre and only when we produce good quality artworks would we be able to achieve that," he said.
