Young Batswana brace for awards

It is that time of the year when the youth are going to be recognised for their contribution in all spheres of national development at the Botswana National Youth Service Awards.

The awards, which are going to be held under the theme, Young People's Active Participation in Development Process: An Imperative; will be the fifth since inception in 1999 as they are held biannually. The awards are open only to Batswana youth aged between 12 and 29 and youth groups whose services and objectives are aimed at promoting young people's well-being.

This year, there are seven categories: Performing arts, visual arts, business enterprise, sports and recreation, leadership and community development, tourism, wildlife and environmental conservation, science and technology. There are also two additional awards, these being the exceptional award and the minister special award. Each category has first, second and third prizes with monetary prizes of P 10, 000; P 8, 000; and P 6, 000. The special prizes carry P 12, 000 tags each.
