Singer Jeff relocates to Orapa

After a five-month absence from the music scene, top singer Jeff Matheatau has decided to relocate to Orapa as he attempts to reach a bigger audience. He says there are just too many artistes doing the genre in Gaborone and very little taking place in areas like Orapa, Maun and Kasane.

Matheatau told Showbiz that since his relocation some two months back, things have already started to look up for him and he has no regrets. "I believe it was a wise move because it gives me a chance to get closer to people who love my music but had little or no chance at all of seeing me in action. I have hosted shows in some remoter areas like Rakops and people came in surprisingly large numbers. You can see that people in those areas miss the opportunity to see us in action," he said.

With so many rumba artistes based in Gaborone, Matheatau says that hosting festivals is becoming costly, as fans would be thinly stretched between various night jaunts.
"It is no use in having one of us playing at Mmopane while the other artiste is playing at nearby Chez Ntemba. Both of us end up with few revellers and consequently low gate receipts," he said.
