Shumba dancers break away

All six back-up vocalists and dancers for celebrated traditional music icon, Shumba Ratshega, real name Moses Malapela, have deserted the star to found a new group.

The five members recently hosted a listening session for their up coming Mosi ke wa eng, to be released soon under the name Dikgokong. The six dancers include the robust Tshegofatso Akanyang, known as CC or Kakapa, among Shumba music lovers. There is also Chax, real name Olebile Monelwe, Small, real name, Gaolathe Kobe, Chacha, real name Thuso Masilo, as well as shadow, real name Shadrack Dithebe, and Seven, real name Monyadiwa Segabo. The break-away of Shumba dancers is the second, after another split last year which saw other popular dancers, C4, Mapio, and Blauza, forming their own group, which has not managed to hit the levels of popularity reached by Shumba.

Their album, an eight-track music project, is produced by Bullet Ketshabile, the same man who programmed Shumba's hit album, Makhirikhiri,  four years ago. They are also recording it at the same South African studio, Sunshine Studios, where Makhirikhiri was recorded.
