September date for inaugural hip-hop dance competition

Diorama, a local entertainment company formed two years ago, is organising an inaugural hip-hop dance competition dubbed 'Dance Like You Mean It' in September. Auditions for the event will be held this Saturday at Energym Health Studio in Broadhurst Industrial.

The competition is intended to be an annual event. It will feature urban dance groups from all over the country. Diorama creative strategist Chenjie Ndaba said besides the attractive prizes, the competition will give winners respect from their peers. The winners of the competition will walk away with P1,750 and an All Kasi voucher. The runners-up get P1,000 and an All Kasi voucher, while the third placed group pockets P750 and an All Kasi voucher.

"We believe young people should be encouraged to explore their talents in performing arts and when they do that, they should be rewarded. Hip-hop just happens to one of the channels through which young people can express themselves, because not only is it accessible, but like all cultures, it consists of elements which are unique to the genre," Ndaba explained.
