Local artistes shine at Kabelano

There was plenty of entertainment during the Orange Kabelano Charity Cup, which was clinched by Notwane last Saturday. Among the entertainers were local artistes, Culture Spears and Mapetla who gave their South African contemporary Thebe a run for his money.

It was obvious that the organisers used Thebe as a draw-card to the event for fun-lovers. But contrary to expectations, Culture Spears, arguably the hottest group in the country, and Mapetla of Sekhokho fame outclassed the South African in every imaginable way. Culture Spears were the first on stage and their performance was simply amazing.
There was something about the group's performance that said that they have staying power as they sang songs from their latest album such as the anthem of party lovers - Kulenyane.

Mapetla, together with his scantly dressed dancers showed that local artistes are a force to reckon with. The musician who won last year's BOMU best Kwaito artist award left fans screaming for more as he dished out some of his hit songs.
Thebe, who was the last artiste to perform at the event, gave a lukewarm offering. At first, to the displeasure of some fans, the South African performed with no back-up vocalists and dancers.
