Indian children's film festival under-way in Gabs

The Indian High Commission, in collaboration with Children's Film Society, India, and the Department of Culture and Youth in the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture, has launched the first children's film festival in Botswana at the New Capitol Cinemas in Game City on Monday.

The festival is scheduled to run for a week, giving children ample time to watch a number of films produced in India, most of which have received international awards. The festival, which started yesterday with screening for invited guests, ends on Saturday.Speaking at the launch, Indian High Commissioner to Botswana, Vishnu Hade ,explained that the festival is in line with the Botswana-India cultural cooperation agreement signed in December 2006.

While this festival is coming to Botswana for the first time, it has been celebrated in India for a long time, having been mooted by the first Indian prime minister, Pandit Jawaharla Nehru.
