Drawing music from life's tragedies

It is rare to come across music albums that double as biographies as well - that reveal the singer's beliefs, thoughts, and troubles. Many would prefer to sing abstract songs rather than to strip themselves naked by going public about their experiences.

It is precisely in this area that Botswana's female jazz singer Punah Gabasiane is excelling.

Gabasiane says she is not ashamed to reveal small personal secrets in her music, which she ably demonstrates in her latest album, Tshwaraganang. She has two songs in this album, My Wish and Mama, which she admitted in a brief interview, were inspired by personal tragedies.
