Art links African and American natives

The W.K. Kellogg Foundation is hosting a group of 45 Native American artists and artisans visiting southern Africa this week. The group arrived at O.R. Tambo International Airport on June 26, 2007.

The objective of the visit, with the theme 'The Answers Lie Within', is to enable cultural and economic exchange between the indigenous communities of southern Africa and North America. The visit seeks to foster knowledge and experience sharing in addition to exchange of technical skills.

"This will be the first time that such a large group of Native American artists and artisans will be coming to interact with counterparts in Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, South Africa, Swaziland and Zimbabwe," Professor Mandivamba Rukuni, Regional Director of the W.K Kellogg Foundation, said. The Native Americans arrive following a similar visit by southern African artists to Santa Fe, New Mexico, in August 2005.
