No floor crossing yet in parliament

The public gallery at the National Assembly was packed with an unusual number of people yesterday who expected to witness a good number of Members of Parliament crossing the floor, from the ruling party to the opposition.

This comes after reports that a weekend meeting of members of the Barata-Phathi faction, had split from the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) to form a new party. About 20 MPs were said to have joined this new party.

However this was not to be as all was normal, with Speaker of the National Assembly, Margaret Nasha opening the proceedings and making no major announcement.
