First to hit the road were the 42.2km runners at 6.45 am paving way for the 10km race which took off 30 minutes later and finally the 4km fun run which started at 10am. A total 0f 2,300 athletes, both local and international, convened in the city to take part in the historical race that was divided into three categories: 42.2 km marathon, 10km race and the 4km fun run/walk.
The first annual charity event took participants over an internationally graded route through the best parts of the city and back to finish at the plush Phakalane Golf resort. After half an hour of breath-taking waiting by the spectators at the finishing point, local runner Kaelo Mosalagae came leading the 10km pack much to the excitement of the spectators. The bare-footed long distance runner clocked a time of 00:30:03 to clinch the race 17 seconds ahead of his closest competitor Erich Goeiman of Namibia who came at 00:30:20.
