The company said that construction at the mine is in the final stages and the plant commissioning is underway. This will result in the processing and sale of the first diamond in July.

Diamonex said on Monday when announcing its quarterly activities report ending March 31, that it will sell its products through WWW International Diamond Consultants (WWW IDC), one of the world's leading diamond marketing and valuation companies.

The commissioning phase of the Lerala mine commenced last month and full-scale mining is scheduled to start next month. "Commissioning of the mine marks the final phase of an 18-month construction project. While there have been delays in reaching this point due to the high regional demand for fabricated steel products and equipment, coupled with unseasonably heavy rains, the company is very pleased to be bringing Lerala into production in such a short time frame," Diamonex company secretary Paul Crawford said in a statement.

The mine in the eastern part of the country has an established 3.7 million carat diamond resource. It is scheduled to produce an average of 330,000 carats annually for 10 years. The mine has a purpose built Dense Media Separation Plant (DMS), with a 200 tonne per hour through-put capacity that utilises state of the art HPGR crushing technology.

Diamonex recently installed a 12 synchronised 400 kVa generators (4.8mw to ensure that the Lerala mine will be unaffected by electricity supply problems experienced in southern Africa.

growth taking into account the down turn in the US economy. Diamonex has reported that it continues to look at other mining prospects in different parts of the country like diamond-rich Jwaneng area.

"Following a further study of the nature of the 19 magnetic anomalies identified within the Jwaneng project area and in light of the relatively thin Kalahari sand cover (0-30 metres) in this region, a decision has been made to move immediately to drill test these anomalies by the end of 2008."

Another prospect the company is looking at is Martin's Drift area. Diamonex says soil sampling for kimberlitic indicator minerals continues immediately south of the Kimberlite Pipe K002 along an ENE trending structure that intersects the overall Lerala Kimberlitic pipes NNE trend. Results are expected by June 2008.

Meanwhile the Diamonex Tuli Prospecting Licences have shown significant datasets of previous sampling carried out by De Beers and Rio Tinto. The datasets have now been incorporated into the Tuli project database. Validation of positive kimberlitic minerals identified from this work are being carried out prior to follow-up sampling.

Diamonex reported that it has submitted new applications in Botswana during the quarter for two further prospecting licences for diamonds in the Orapa and Gope North areas.
The company plans to submit additional applications during the year. It said its primary focus for the last quarter of the current financial year is to commission and commence full production at the Lerala mine and to have a positive cash flow by the end of 2008.
