The Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC) has cut its sponsorship figure for the Botswana Premier League (BPL) from P13 million to P5million, the company's commercial officer, Edward Wicks told the media on Wednesday.
BTC cut the figure as the telecommunications company, felt it was not getting expected returns from the P39 million deal.
As a result there has been no decision on the prize money, which has stood at P1.3 million for the winners.
Wicks emphasised the importance of a commercial beneficial sponsorship for both the sponsors and the league. "We are making a big commitment to local football, we have been doing that for over a decade now and we will continue to do that. We have come together to put a new deal on the table, we have agreed a way forward and is our mandate to create full value for the sponsorship and to grow the beautiful game in Botswana."
