Thulare’s rise from constituency football to Top 8 winner

It is every footballer’s dream to win silverware in their career. That dream becomes even more special when one wins trophies earlier in their career as some players have played football for many years, but they have nothing to show for their sweat. For Jwaneng Galaxy’s Fortune Thulare, the football gods have smiled on him much earlier

FRANCISTOWN: The gods recently smiled on Fortune Thulare who won the Mascom Top 8 cup with Jwaneng Galaxy last week. A few years back Thulare, the Jwaneng Galaxy centre back, did not even dream of winning a major football trophy in his life.

The 25-year-old player from Maape in Tswapong started playing constituency football at his home village to pass time and thereafter relocated to Francistown were he continued with his passion in the constituency league.

In Francistown, he turned out for Area W social soccer club, Industrial Super Tigers.

In 2015, Thulare played in the annual Kwambala Cup and helped Industrial win the cup.

The Kwambala Cup is the brainchild of Area W councillor (Itekeng ward), Lesego Kwambala.

Former TAFIC goalkeeper and legend, Wrist Mmusi said that none of the players who played in the tournament were fit to wear TAFIC jersey let alone be invited for trials at the historic Francistown side.

Most of the players who Mmusi said would not make the cut at TAFIC are now playing for Eleven Angels and junior national teams.

Last Saturday, Thulare made Mmusi eat a humble pie when he won the Mascom Top final with Galaxy. Surely, if Mmusi was not at

the Francistown Sports Complex on that Saturday night, he was watching the game from somewhere probably in the comfort of his home.

Miscellaneous from Serowe would later discover that Thulare was a gem and they signed him in June 2015.

His sojourn in Serowe was short as Galaxy signed him last July.

Thulare played the game of his life last week Saturday when he managed to contain Gaborone United’s (GU) dangerous players and in the process helping his team to lift the Mascom Top 8 trophy.

“I will treasure the Mascom Top 8 cup that I won shortly after I started playing professional football. It is something that every player dreams of achieving during their playing days. We also hope to complete a cup double by winning the BTC Premiership,” said an ecstatic Thulare.

Thulare’s ambition is now to cement his place in Galaxy’s defence. To put icing on the cake, he was called up to the Zebras’ squad to face Angola next week.

“In life nothing is impossible. You just have to try your level best and see what happens. I also dream of one day playing soccer in the more professional leagues outside the country,” he said.
