The Monitor :: Decapitation Murder Suspect Also Face Drug Charges

Court documents state that on the first count, Kgowe, facing unlawful possession of cannabis was on or about May 21, 2016 found with the habit forming drug weighing 11.3 grams at Block 3 location in Gaborone.

On count two, he is facing an offence of unlawful possession of methcathinone, after he was found in possession of the habit-forming drug weighing 4.3038grams. Kgowe who had been granted bail in this matter, appeared before Magistrate Gaseitsewe Tonoki on Friday for judgement on the unlawful possession of drugs charges. The judgement was postponed to tomorrow (Tuesday) due to non-availability of court interpreters.

Last Thursday, Kgowe once again appeared before Extension II Magistrate for mention, this time for a murder alleged to have been committed on Elizabeth Bonolo Kerekang by cutting off her head and dumping her body minus the head

at Maratanang ward in Tlokweng.

Kgowe was further remanded in custody in this matter as the police are still searching for Kerekang’s missing head.

Prosecution pleaded for his further detention so that he can assist the police to locate the other two suspects linked to the offence who are still on the run as well as the missing part of deceased’s body.

The prosecutors disclosed that police were still following leads that may lead to the recovery of the deceased’s missing head. Kerekang was buried three weeks ago without the head.

Meanwhile, The Monitor has learnt that despite drug use spiralling out of control in Botswana, drug dealing and possession does not carry hefty penalties and worse of all, the judiciary appears to be lenient by letting suspects off the hook with paltry bail amounts and fines.
