Various dignitaries amongst them ministers, IWG board members, artists and other members of society graced the event. Despite the chilly weather, people came in numbers in appreciation for this year’s conference and the work that has been achieved by the IWG over the years.

Speaking at the event, board member and executive director, Matilda Mwaba highlighted the significance of hosting the IWG conference in Botswana saying it was important for Africa as a whole. She said the conference remains a landmark in Botswana’s calendar, saying that sustenance of the actions taken by the IWG requires leadership and resources.

“May I therefore take this opportunity to request the Government of Botswana to support the sustenance of the IWG legacy in Africa by hosting the women

sport Africa network after the IWG secretariat has been handed over to New Zealand,” she said.

After dinner and all the official proceedings, it was Folk jazz band Sereetsi & The Natives, dishing out some tracks from the just released sophomore studio album titled motoko. Sereetsi also performed mpompela, which is a dikhwaere track.

The Natives, as Sereetsi usually refers to his fans, joined in to sing along with the song they are perfectly familiar with. As Sereetsi was performing on stage, traditional dancers were also doing their magic right in front of the stage to create a wonderful merging of traditional dance and folklore jazz. Despite sampling his new songs, Sereetsi didn’t forget to perform his previous songs like thaa kokome.
