The Monitor :: Mongae's Hattrick Down Sharps

This was the winger’s second hat-trick of this campaign as he took his tally to 13 goals just a goal behind leading goal scorer, Thatayaone Kgamanyane of Gaborone United.

The teams met after contrasting fortunes in their last fixtures with Sharps having won their last game while Tse Nala went down by a solitary goal to Mochudi Centre Chiefs a fortnight ago.

The first 10 minutes did not produce any sparks with both sides failing to connect in the final third but in the 11th minute, Mongae put a telling cross in the box that Master Masitara failed to connect well. Sharps’ Charles Mujokeri on the other hand was denied by the goalkeeper as he tried to take a shot from a tight angle.

In the 18th minute, Langa Mabuli beat the offside trap but was let down by poor finishing as he shot wide. With three minutes to the break, Moemedi Moatlhaping tried the goalkeeper from outside the box with a curler but it just flew over the bar.

The visitors broke the deadlock on the brink of half time. Mongae headed home a low taken corner kick that caught the Sharps’ defence napping to give his side the lead going into the break.

Sharps asked questions early into the second half to try and get back into the game. Ogomoditse Bauleni skied his effort before Mujokeri hit the upright less than a minute into the half.

Mongae scored from an indirect free kick, but the referee disallowed the goal in the 49th minute. A minute later, Mponang Mponang missed as his shot was held by Raphael

Nthwane from close range.

With the goalkeeper floored by Letlhogonolo Chenjela with skill, Mujokeri had his shot blocked by the defence in the 57th minute as yet another Sharps’ chance was wasted.

The visitors were then awarded a penalty after Mongae was brought down by Bakani Madaiza.

He stepped up to beat Nthwane to the bottom right corner with his 12th of the league. Miscellaneous had another goal disallowed after Masitara hit the net, but was ruled offside in the 71st minute.

Mongae completed his hat-trick after Tse Nala broke away with pace on a counter attack.

Masitara laid for the winger who beat Nthwane to the bottom right corner on 75th minute to help his side win the valuable three points away from home.

Sharps coach, Michael Mogaladi was lost for words as blamed the match officials for his side’s heavy loss.

“I have nothing to comment on the game, the referee should come here and comment on the game. We lost the game because of bad officiating,” he said.

“I mean, what kind of penalty is that? We have to push and stay within the top eight now.”  His counterpart, Oris Radipotsane was happy to return to winning ways and gain the valuable three points away from home.
