Responding to a parliamentary question, Makgalemele pointed out that even though BPC did not make any profit during the last few years he was confident that through the implementation of the restructuring strategy the situation would change.

The five-year strategy is a transformation journey to realise BPC’s vision of being “a leading power utility in the region” by 2020.  It seeks to turn the corporation into a profitable and efficient entity by 2020.

The five themes incorporated within the strategy are not limited to; Financial Turnaround, Service Delivery, SHERQ Culture, Organisational Efficiency and Service Power Supply.

expected to execute and monitor, well-defined organisational structure, well-articulated management standards, effective internal alignment strategies, comprehensive change management initiatives, enforced consequence management and leadership management.

“Currently, BPC has 1,900 employees and has no job establishment because of restructuring,” he said.

Furthermore, he said the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security added Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority (BERA) as one of its parastatals.

BERA was given P33,360,440 in the 2017-2018 financial year. As a new establishment, BERA has 90 posts, 11 of which have been filled.

“Recruitment for the remaining positions is ongoing,” he said.
