This comes hardly after the BDP suspended its primaries pending a court case, which blocked civil servants from participating in parties’ primary elections. The party central committee is expected to make a decision next Monday on the matter.

The party will hold its primaries in opposition-held constituencies, particularly in Gaborone and surrounding areas. “Our primaries could have long started if the court case was not there, but we had to wait for it. The party caucus did not make a ruling on the matter, but the party central committee will decide on it,” BDP communication chairperson, Thapelo Pabalinga, said.
