The Monitor :: Steez Dies In Car Crash

Steez’s uncle, Logic Sebopeng confirmed the tragic news to Showtime.  According to Steez’s cousin Neo Modisane, the former Btv presenter was coming from Maun after attending the Mascom Derby last weekend.  She said his car had mechanical problems, which he had to fix before making the trip back to Gaborone. She said Steez’s car caught fire and burnt after it was hit by the other vehicle.  She said Steez was alone in the car.

Steez, who was also known as Mochine O Ichenchang, was a seasoned rapper, radio and television presenter who was born and raised in Mahalapye. He rose to fame after he was chosen as a presenter for Btv’s Meribo magazine show in 2003. At the time he was chosen alongside the late Kago Setshogo and Pauline Mabelebele. The passionate rapper’s show was called the Unauthorised and it was strictly about Hip-Hop.  After leaving Meribo, Steez strengthened his calling as a TV presenter when he joined Btv’s Flavadome a year later and cohosted the show with Mabelebele from 2005 to 2007.

Being a man who was not afraid of change, hence the monicker Mochine O Ichenchang, Steez took a swift turn and joined the then new Duma FM radio station

as one of its first presenters. Although he was new to radio after being in front of the camera for years, Steez established his brand and joined the marketing and public relations department after Robbie Rob suggested the idea to him. He also had a brief stint at eBotswana when he presented a show called Tswaka while he held down his job at Duma FM.

Steez then joined Thabiso Maretlwaneng’s film and television company as a marketing executive. It was at Dee Zone Productions that he presented Pula Power from 2013 until 2015.

He was passionate about motswako music after releasing his debut hip-hop album, Streets Are Calling on March 2007. Before that he gained recognition after rapping on a radio jingle in Emmax Letshwiti’s Top 20 countdown show. His sophomore album titled Mochine O Ichenchang was released on  December 2008. Last year he released the first two singles titled Pula and My Botswana from what would have been his upcoming third studio album.

The new album, Mochini O Ichenchang Vol.2 was yet to be released before he met his fate. He held a Bachelor of Arts Degree with majors in Economics and Environmental Science from the University of Botswana.
