World Tourism Day preparations on track

SELEBI-PHIKWE: World Tourism Day preparations are at an advanced stage with commemorations planned for the mining town of Selebi-Phikwe, it has been revealed.

Speaking to Mmegi about the event, Selebi-Phikwe District Tourism Officer, Mogomotsi Balebetse explained that the event will be held on September 27 with a cultural night taking place at Ikageleng Hall at New Stance Location the day before.

“Since this is a national event, we are working in collaboration with our Francistown office to make sure that the event goes smoothly. We want to create awareness in the community about the industry and conservation. We cannot get anywhere in this industry if we are not conserving the resources that we have,” he said. He said cultural activities that are found in the region must be preserved because it can also benefit residents when tourists visit to see how people are surviving.
