If there is anyone who loves fashion with all their heart and does all it takes to promote it, it is the Gaborone-based Uyapo Ketlogetswe who describes himself as a fashion entrepreneur.

The 22-year-old fashion photographer asserts that he fell in love with fashion while studying for a degree in business administration and project management at the University of Botswana (UB).

“It was while at UB that my passion for fashion was whetted and I managed to scrape together some money and bought myself a camera and the rest as they say is history,” said the fashion enthusiast, who is originally from Francistown.

Interestingly, ever since finishing his studies, he has not ventured into business management choosing rather to be behind the camera. Ketlogetswe who specialises in fashion and social photography said that his passion for fashion has made him determined to help grow the industry in the country even if he does not get a reward for it.

“The local fashion industry is in it’s infancy in the country and I am determined to grow it and grow with it,” he said.

In an endeavour to help grow the industry, he recently gathered together fashion bloggers in Gaborone to share ideas of how to make impact in the country. “I recently travelled to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Africa 2014.  While there, I noticed that many fashion editors, bloggers, photographers and fashion enthusiasts did a lot of things together.  They attended shows together, shared commentary, chilled together, posed for pictures and ate together and I ask myself why is it the complete opposite in Botswana?” asked Ketlogetswe.

He added that he is determined to

help the fashion industry move forward as a unit saying that is the only way it can grow.

The industrious young man said that he was more than ready to help those who want to grow in different aspects of fashion for no charge at all.   The determined fashion entrepreneur works online where he gets to interact with a host of clients and followers and as such does not have an office.

“We as Batswana in the fashion industry need to realise that it is important that we could work together to showcase our diversity,” he said.  Ketogetswe said that the highlight of his carreer was being engaged by Legit fashion house to take what he calls ‘striking street style images’ at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Africa 2014. Needless to say his career has afforded him the opportunity to sit in the front row of some of the top fashion events in the country.

Ketlogetswe said that he has had support from his family and complete strangers who follow his works online.

“It is very encouraging to get a complete stranger complimenting me on the work that I do and that really keeps me going,” he said.

Apart from working as a fashion entrepreneur, the multi-talented Ketlogetswe does brand consultancy, digital makerting, events production and management.

“As far as I am concerned, I will never stop learning new things and this allows me to get into new ventures,” he said.
