There will be no contestant from Botswana as the regional football body, COSAFA holds its elective congress in Namibia on Saturday next week.

Former Botswana Football Association (BFA) first vice president, Marshlow Motlogelwa was in line to contest the COSAFA elections, but recently quit his position. This left the country without a candidate to sit in on the elective congress for the BFA. The BFA chief executive officer, Mfolo Mfolo said after Motlogelwa left, the association decided to sit this one out. “There was interest from our former VP1 but since then we decided to let it go. We will weigh our options at the next elective congress,” Mfolo said.

COSAFA will have a new leader after Zimbabwean, Philip Chiyangwa decided against seeking a second term. Chiyangwa was elected unopposed replacing Suketu Patel in 2016. Angola’s Artur Almeida de Silva is set to become the new COSAFA president as he is unopposed after the close of nominations on April 11. South Africa Football Association, Danny Jordan was initially tipped to challenge for the presidency but decided not to contest. Comoros Football Federation president, Said Ali Said Athouman is unopposed for the position of vice president. There will be a heated contest for the five positions of the ordinary member as eight names are on the ballot paper.
