Soldiers Conquer Big House

OTSE: BDF VI got sweet revenge when they walloped Kutlwano 3-0 in the BMW Capital Motors volleyball men finals on Saturday. The win avenged the 3-2 defeat BDF VI suffered from Kutlwano in the final of the Phakalane Winner Takes All tournament.

The Capital Motors final started on a high with each team showing no respect for the other. In the first set it was not easy to tell who will eventually emerge victorious. It was a closely contested affair that BDF eventually won 25-23. But after this, it was a one-sided contest as Kutlwano flattered to deceive. Kutlwano tried to put their act together but the hard work of Thabo Seitshiro was put to waste, as he did not have enough support from his teammates. The trusted duo of Peaceful Seleka and Shadrack Kapeko were invisible in the game. Although Kutlwano had all their key players, it looked like something was lacking in coach Isaac Samuel's team. They did not give BDF VI the anticipated competition. The Big House on the day failed to live to the status of a big team as they simply failed to answer the questions from BDF VI who won the second set 25-20. The army side seemed to have done their home work thoroughly as they played in a fast paced game giving Kutlwano no room to think. It was the brilliance of captain Pogiso Osupile and Lee Tshipana that did the job for BDF VI. Despite his team doing well, coach Selebatso Mabutho remained on his feet throughout the game. He said after the game that he knew he was sure of a win. He said he knew the weakness and strengths of Kutlwano players because he has trained most of them at the national team.

Mabutho admitted that his team was under pressure because they had an assignment to regain their status as the dominant force of local volleyball. He applauded Kutlwano for giving them competition saying they were not a bad side as they lost all the sets with slim margins.
