Soccer clubs, players abuse transfer laws

As it is the norm that whereas some teams breathe a sigh of relief when the transfer window opens because it gives them a chance to improve the quality of their sides, others suffer constant headaches as they fall prey to rivals who approach them with a view of signing their players.

As a result, instead of ushering in a time to rebuild, the exercise has generated a litany of complaints from teams that feel shot changed by rivals who recruit their players using underhand methods.

Nicholas Gora, Thapelo Balepi and Boniface Makolo are some of the players who came into the spotlight during the just-ended transfer window. Rollers demanded P15, 000 for Balepi from Mochudi Centre Chiefs though the player later decided to remain at Rollers while after some discussions between the two teams, Rollers paid a certain amount for Makolo's services from Chiefs. Though the Premier League Committee dismissed TAFIC's claim that Chiefs did not follow the right procedures when recruiting Nicholas Gora (who they feel is a professional player), TAFIC felt that Chiefs had already talked to the player before they could give them the go ahead. They also went on to demand P25, 000 for the player though it is said that the two teams later reached a compromising fee.
