FRANCISTOWN: A Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) official here has disclosed that the Re ba bona ha cricket centre at Monarch Primary School is yet to fully function nearly five months after it was commissioned.

The cricket coordinator appointed by the BCA in the Northern part of the country, Clement Chipanga disclosed in an interview with Mmegi Sport this week. There have been reports that children shun the cricket development programme leaving the P150, 000 facility, launched in October last year a white elephant, but Chipanga dismissed the reports yesterday."It is not like children are shunning the programme. The Monarch facility is filled with grass and other forms of vegetation all over. "That is why it has not been in use this year. I had a chat with the newly appointed Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) development officer here about the status of the facility."He has promised to engage the city council to make sure that the facility is cleared as soon as possible.

"So far children under the Re ba bona ha programme at Phatogo, Monarch, Tati Town and Ntshe who are closer to the Monarch cricket centre use the Francistown Cricket Club facility at China Town as an alternative," he disclosed.Chipanga added:  "Of course not all of them make it to training in China Town because of the distance but the number of those attending sessions is still impressive though."Other cricket centres at Phatsimo and Satellite Primary schools respectively are being fully utilised, according to the coordinator. The number of children who take part in the cricket initiative has also been impressive, according to the coordinator.
