Mufema Breaks Gunners

LOBATSE: Second half substitute Edmore Mufema scored the only goal in the 87th minute as visiting Gaborone United beat Lobtrans Gunners 1-0 in their opening Mascom Premier League match on Saturday.

Mufema combined well with Thuso Mosweu to finish off a well carved Tshepo 'Schoolboy' Molefe's corner kick to break Gunners' hearts. The dull game was a see-saw affair destined for a draw until Mufema pounced.  In the first half, Gunners looked the more composed side creating numerous chances that went to waste with Leteane  Kgololo the biggest culprit. Kgololo failed to convert more than three chances when he had only goalkeeper Boitumelo 'Safe Hands' Kediseng to beat.

In the second half, GU started to make sporadic advances towards Gunners' goal and the introduction of Mosweu and Mufema added impetus to the Red's charge.  The combination of Mosweu, Mufema, Ronald Chikomo and Sageby Sandaka kept Gunners' defence on the back foot. Experienced Gunners' skipper Finki Mothibi with Kentse Motlhale, Lebogang Mohloni and Joshua Ndebele did a splendid job at the back to keep GU at bay. Ndebele in particular had a good afternoon as he enjoyed marking Sandaka out of the game. The slippery Sandaka eventually switched positions with Mosweu to play in midfield as a strategy to avoid the workaholic Ndebele. Gunners' defender Bosarutweng 'Booster' Magola did a good job in keeping striker Tiroyamodimo Mohambi silent.
