Masunga meet set to attract over 1, 000 athletes

FRANCISTOWN: The national athletics competition that begins today at the Masunga Sports Complex has attracted over 1, 000 athletes.

The annual competition that caters for primary school pupils is also used as a qualifier for the Confederation of Southern African Sports Association (COSASA) games that would be held in Zimbabwe early May this year.Botswana Primary School Sports Association (BPSSA) Public Relations Officer (PRO) Lawrence Moseki told Mmegi Sport that 10 regions across the country would be participating in the event. "We are expecting each region to send between 50 to 70 athletes. We expect both the number of athletes and officials to reach or exceed 1, 000.

"To be selected will be 50 to 60 athletes who are under the age of 13 years to take part at this year's COSASA games billed for Zimbabwe", Moseki explained.The athletics competition will be divided into the three categories, namely the junior category for pupils aged from six to 10, years, the intermediate category for the11 to 14 years, and the seniors for 15 to 17 year olds.
