Makwala sets up 200m final showdown after IAAF u-turn

Isaac Makwala’s fairy tale at the World Championships took a stunning twist last night after the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) made an embarrassing u-turn to allow the former 400m African champion to compete in the 200m.

Makwala had been barred from competing on the argument that he was suffering from food poisoning, despite that no tests were conducted.

But late yesterday, IAAF allowed Makwala to run his 200m heat, with 20.53 or faster, set as the cut off time.
