GU deny 'Jomo' reports

Gaborone United (GU) have denied offering international striker, Moemedi 'Jomo' Moatlhaping P40,000 as a signing-on fee.

There have been reports this week that the Reds have offered the player what would be  the best deal in the history of the club football in Botswana. But GU chairman, Kelesitse Gilika say the reports are ridiculous. He said the reports in a local weekly are the work of people who want to cause friction in the club. "There is no doubt that we expressed our interest in securing the services of Jomo. But for people to say that we have made him such an offer is disturbing. It does not make business sense for us to make such an offer and people must know that at GU, we have got principles. If we offered him that much, why did he not sign on the dotted line," he said.

By yesterday, GU were still hoping to meet with Moatlhaping after he was given a copy of the club's contract. It is understood the national Under-23 star has been avoiding calls from agents of GU. "We badly need his services and we would not like to put pressure on him. He's a professional and we respect that he has to settle for an offer which is good for him.
