Chess team in poor start at Olympiad

The Botswana chess team expects to do better in the Olympiad after a poor start, the coach has said.

Kenneth Boikhutswane who doubles as team manager said the players learnt from the losses against Vietnam and Holland in the opening matches. The men lost 4-0 to Vietnam while the women suffered the same beating from Holland. At the time of going to press, Botswana men were scheduled play against Cyprus as the women take on Seychelles. The Chess Olympiad is taking place in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia.

Botswana men are ranked 100 out of 151 countries while the women are ranked 76th out 113 nations. About 158 nations are taking part in the competition that is expected to run until October 4.
