Botswana has reaped seven medals at the just-concluded Confederation of School Sport Association of Southern Africa (COSSASA) ball games in Lesotho.

Botswana got gold after the boys' team lifted the soccer title for the first time while the girls came back home with silver after finishing second in football. The boys' team beat Lesotho 2-0, South Africa 1-0, Swaziland 2-1 and drew with Namibia 1-1. The girls recovered admirably from a 5-1 hammering by South Africa in the first game to defeat Lesotho 1-0 before humiliating Namibia 8-0. Botswana won bronze in netball, two silvers - in boys' and girls' basketball. The teams competed in Lesotho under the Botswana Integrated Sports Association (BISA).

Speaking to Mmegi Sport after arrival yesterday, boys' football team coach, Kopanelo Maleke said that he is impressed with the performance and the victory. He said that they started building the team in 2004. He revealed that BISA sent some of the players to train at the South African School of Excellence that year. "At that time, some were 13 years of age and they went to participate in the COSSASA games for the first time last year where they brought a silver medal," he said. Maleke told Mmegi Sport that it is the same team that brought won silver early this year at the ANOCA games in Lesotho.
