Botswana cricketers face lengthy spells in the regional cricket league after the International Cricket Council's (ICC) decision to scrap Division 7 and 8.

This means it will be tougher for Botswana as they will have to compete at regional level to win promotion to Division 6. Teams that finish third downward in the ongoing tournament will revert to regional divisions where Botswana will be with either Ghana or Nigeria, depending on who qualifies from the current competition.

Another chance to qualify for Division 6 will come next year, but Botswana will have to perform at their best in World Cricket League Africa Division.  ICC development events manager, Edward Fitzgibbon explained the new developments to Mmegi Sport at the end of yesterday's matches in Gaborone. He said starting from next year, the top two teams from Division 6 will move to Division 5, while the third placed team stays in Division 6 leaving each region of the five ICC regions with a single slot to Division 6. Botswana finds herself struggling in the on-going tournament with two defeats from three matches.
