The Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) has urged National Sport Associations (NSA) to only elect treasurers with a finance or accounting background and accredited with the Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants (BICA).

The new directive, which came into effect in January demands that any person who is given a position to be a treasurer or any portfolio whose responsibility is to oversee finances in the executive committee should have a finance or an accounting background and should be registered with BICA.

“The implementation of this transformation should take immediate effect. This is meant to improve governance and financial management within the BNSC National Sport Associations,” reads part of the circular.
