BDF inspires success in local rugby

The military has not only contributed abundant resources but provides over 80 percent of the players. The BDF has produced coaches for local rugby. Long before rugby became a competitive (game) in Botswana, the military used the sport to keep fit.
During the prize giving ceremony after the weeklong Pool B competition in Gaborone, it was revealed that when the national rugby body was formed in Botswana, it was BDF that everybody turned to for help. The local game benefited through BDF's links with the South African National Defence Force Rugby Association (SANDFRA). As Botswana celebrated its feat in the African Rugby Confederation tournament on Saturday, Colonel Pieter Oberholzer from SANDFRA gave a speech and said he was delighted that the links between the two militaries are bearing fruit.
