Softball lovers are in for a treat when eight clubs lock horns in a spectacular sponsored by Barloworld in Jwaneng over the Independence holidays.

Wells, Rail Giants, Blue Angeles and defending champions BDF IX will battle it out in bracket A while bracket B has Gatalamotho, Scramblers, Vikings and Bears. The two clubs in each bracket qualify for semi-finals. Barloworld has once again sponsored the event with a whooping P100,000. The sponsorship has grown from P8,000 in 2001 when the company first sponsored the event.

Speaking at the launch of the sponsorship on Tuesday, Barlworld general manager, Ian Duthie said they are proud to be associated with softball. He said they continue to finance the event even during the current economic crunch because the softball association is doing things right and because they feel it is their responsibility to give back to the community. Duthie said sport has potential to build a productive nation.
