Why the BCP and the BDP are the parties of choice

After reading a few newspaper comments on the recent general elections, some of which veered towards nothing but emotional ranting, I wish to offer an alternative explanation on the resurgence of the BDP and the emergence of the BCP as the potential main opposition party as well as the shrinking popular support of the BNF.

However, my comments will be based on the IEC's incomplete data of the 2009 elections found on their website.

First let us dispense off with the BNF's diminishing political clout. The BNF's declining political fortunes had started to show in the 2004 elections when their popular support stagnated, having grown by about one percentage point. In 2009 their popular support plunged to 21.9% from 25.51% in 2004, which some observers blame on the allegedly weak Moupo leadership.
