I don’t want to enter fellow blogger Thuso Palai’s terrain but I must admit that we had a great sporting weekend. I will leave the sporting details to Palai and instead focus on national pride and the rare display of collective happiness among Batswana in the past few days.

We are used to hearing, saying and reading negative stuff about our country. We are not a country of high achievers and for the most part, have low expectations of our people and government.

There are also problems in this country, which are usually swept under the carpet like poverty, unemployment, corruption, classism, high HIV/AIDS case incidence and escalating cases of rape and domestic abuse, to mention a few. In the midst of the negativity, moaning and groaning, there was a flicker of hope when we hosted the 2nd African Youth Games.
