Who replaces Linchwe?

Bangwaketse paramount chief Seepapitso IV is tipped to succeed the late Kgosi Linchwe as president of the Customary Court of Appeal. Other names being mentioned to succeed the departed Bakgatla paramount chief are Francistown Customary Court president Kgosi Christopher Masunga and former Bakwena regent Kgosikwena Sebele.

But the outspoken Seepapitso is said to be a frontrunner because the government is keen to silence him. The Ntlo ya Dikgosi chairman has been a thorn in the flesh to the government and at one time he was suspended from his chieftainship. He later bounced back and added another feather to his cap when he was appointed Botswana's ambassador to the United States and then China.

The other candidate for the post, Kgosi Masunga, is a former member of the Ntlo ya Dikgosi. He has been presiding over the Francistown based northern Customary Court of Appeal while Linchwe oversaw the southern region. The third candidate, Kgosikwena Sebele, has been working with Linchwe as the deputy president of the Customary Court of Appeal.
