Two questioned over horseback crimes

MAUN: Police here are questioning two men suspected to be part of the notorious horse-riding gang wanted in connection with robbery, rape and assaults of residents. Maun Police Station commander, Kenny Badumetse has told Mmegi the two men were arrested in a bush near Maun on suspicion that they were preparing to commit crime.

The gang comprises of herdsman from cattle posts near Maun who last month rode their horses through the town and caused terror. After the terror, police efforts to search for the thugs with a helicopter and other means proved futile.

The police say at least in three crime cases, men on horseback have been reported to be the perpetrators. In once case, four nightriders took turns raping an unnamed woman in Sedie after flogging and chasing her boyfriend. They reportedly took the woman to a football field where they took turns raping her at night.
