The Trainers and Allied Workers Union (TAWU) has issued a notice to sue government following the latter's approval of Levels of Operation (LoO) for the teaching service.

On Thursday last week, the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD), Grace Muzila, announced that the government had resolved implement recommendations of MoESD on LoO. The announcement also stated that teachers' salary grades would be reviewed to bring them in line with general practice elsewhere in the public service, and that band C teachers would be able to progress within the grade, provided they had the qualifications and their performance warranted such movement.

Muzila had also stated that the progression for headship levels for colleges of education and technical colleges wiould stretch to E2 and D1 respectively; for secondary schools to D1 and D2 and for primary schools to D2 and D3. There would be separation of the different management positions and recognition of the different levels of accountability and responsibility, the PS announced.
