Somolekae fumbles on civil servants' business dabbling

Assistant Minister of Presidential Affairs and Public Administration Dr Gloria Somolekae was yesterday at pains in her attempts to set the record straight on recent statements, attributed to President Ian Khama, regarding whether government employees can venture into business.

Somolekae contradicted the statements attributed to the President by the government mouthpiece The Daily News, in which he reportedly said talks are ongoing on a proposed policy that will allow civil servants to venture into business.

"It is not true that civil servants can now venture into any business of their choice," Somolekae told Parliament yesterday.She was responding to a question from Francistown South legislator Wynter Mmolotsi, who had asked her whether it is true that civil servants can now venture into any business of their choice, and whether the Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA) would advertise them while they are still employed by government.
