Sofisto fined P200

After practicing for 38 years as a traditional doctor, Masego Sofisto Nthobatsang was last week dragged before Gaborone Central Police (CPS) on allegations of fraud.

When he was arrested by police officers, Sofisto was shown on Btv, and alleged to be a fake doctor. However, Gaborone Central Police station commander, Superintendent Kevin Mookodi told The Monitor that they fined Sofisto P200 for not being registered with Dingaka Association, but not because he is a 'fake doctor', especially as his customers are satisfied with his services.

"We charged Sofisto for operating without a certificate, not on suspicions that he is a fake doctor," said Mookodi. He said he knows that Sofisto has been practicing as a traditional doctor for a long time, but the problem is that he is not registered with Dingaka Association, which makes him act contrary to Section 176 of the Penal Code of Botswana. When contacted for comment, Sofisto said he did not want to discuss the matter with the media, as God is the only one who will answer on his behalf.
