Multitudes of people among them President Festus Mogae and former president Sir Ketumile Masire attended the funeral of Bakgatla Paramount Chief and founding president of the Customary Court of Appeal, Kgosi Linchwe Kgafela in Mochudi on Saturday.

South African minister of Correctional Services, Ngconde Balfour was also present. Other leaders included Chairman of Ntlo Ya Dikgosi (House of Chiefs) Kgosi Seepapitso IV, Local Government minister Margaret Nasha, other cabinet ministers, Members of Parliament (MPs) and government officials.

Speakers at the funeral praised him as a hard worker who strongly believed in the preservation of traditional values. Kgosi Nyalala Pilane from Moruleng described Linchwe as a person who preserved culture by reviving Bogwera and Bojale when he came back from his diplomatic duties in the United States of America (USA) and Canada. "He revived Bogwera and Bojale which was fading away before he took over the throne," said Pilane, adding that Bakgatla should continue with the legacy of their fallen chief. He said that Linchwe was an open-minded person who spoke on what he believed in without fear. He told the mourners that Linchwe knew his days were numbered because he showed his family where he wanted to be buried.
