PEEPA mum over tender row

PEEPA public relations officer, Norman Patlakwe, will not shed light on the reported board room uproar over the scuttling of a tender bid by 'an influential' company seeking to act as transactional advisor in the privatisation of the Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC).

Information leaked to this paper alleges that a heated board meeting has resolved to disqualify the bid after some board members allegedly pointed accusations of conflict of interest at one among them.
Sources reveal that other members of the board of directors believe that the issue of conflicting interests was an excuse to deliberately frustrate the accused member of the board.

It is not yet clear what steps the disqualified consortium has taken but fears are that it plans to take PEEPA to court over the decision.
"Many questions have been asked about that issue but I am not in any position to answer you," responded Patlakwe, adding that his organisation was still working on a standard response to the enquiries of the media.
