Ntlo Ya Dikgosi has commenced debate on the Matimela Bill, which intends to improve and remove outdated or obsolete provisions to modernise the Matimela Act.

Matimela Bill (No.29 of 2017) was brought before the House by Local Government and Rural Development assistant minister, Botlhogile Tshireletso. She said clause three of the bill provides new definitions under the Act, which include the words brand, kgosi, Matimela facility, Matimela facility book and tribal area.

The bill provides for the establishment of matimela facilities. Under the new dispensation, the facilities where matimela are to be kept will no longer be referred as matimela kraals but as matimela facilities. It also states that matimela officers will be subjects to the provisions of the Public Service Act (CAP. 26:01).
