No forensic plans yet - minister

Parliament has been told that government does not have plans to build a forensic laboratory in the northern part of the country soon.

Skelemani was answering Tonota member of Parliament (MP) Pono Moatlhodi, who had asked him whether there were any plans to build a forensic laboratory in the northern part of the country to relieve the only laboratory based in Gaborone; and if so when and where?


The minister explained that in the last Committee of Supply, Parliament authorised P 10 million for the construction of a forensic laboratory in Gaborone.
"The intention is to capacitate the Gaborone operations in terms of manpower, office accommodation, and equipment thus improve efficiency", he said. The minister emphasised that in the meantime, every effort is being made to ensure that there is no backlog of cases at the forensic laboratory in Gaborone, which "is woefully inadequate".
